For years, Chad Boeninger at Ohio University has been singing the praises of CamStudio, free software for making screencasts. I’ve been using the el cheapo CaptureFox for a number of months now but feel it’s time to move on to something that will allow me to do minimal editing before uploading my screencasts to YouTube. Our library has a license for Adobe Captivate, but it’s only available on a handful of machines (a list that doesn’t include mine). I’m eager to see if CamStudio is simple enough for me to do the kind of sreencasts-on-the-fly that I’ve found really helpful for reference interactions.
